Philadelphians Abroad: Donatelli & Noone lift Tampa over Charleston, Okafor scores in Sweden

Glenside, PA native and VSI Tampa Bay midfielder Tony Donatelli earned his first goal of the season against his former team Charleston Battery last Saturday. Early in the game, Donatelli looked to capitalize off of a poor give-away by Charleston. Sprung by his teammate, Donatelli was off to the races. Despite an onrush of Charleston defenders, Donatelli was able to fly past every one, even overcoming a botched interception attempt. Racing into the box, he slipped the ball past the goalkeeper to put Tampa Bay up just 7 minutes in.

Fifty-two minutes and two goals later, Tampa Bay had completely run over Charleston. The locals, however, would see one more highlight in this game. Receiving a cross in the left side of the box after a Tampa Bay corner volleyed back and forth across the field, Harrisburg, PA native and former Philadelphia Union midfielder J.T. Noone drove a quick ball to the feet of teammate Sallieu Bundu, who fired it home to tally the fourth goal for VSI in what would eventually be a 4-2 win for the home side.

In other news, Verona, NJ’s on Jonathan Okafor, now playing for Swedish side MYPA, also scored his first goal of the season, though even the Google translation of this game report is largely unintelligible to me. If you know how that goal went down, please feel free to share in the comments below.
