Stealing a page from Twitter’s playbook, today’s piece is dedicated to highlighting some great news outlets for professional soccer in Maryland and Pennsylvania.
The Upper 90 – Derek Meluzio
Derek does great work covering soccer in the Harrisburg area and following the Harrisburg City Islanders. I have really enjoyed some of his recent pieces on current Islander goaltender Tomer Chencinski, a Where are They Now? with current Baltimore Blast player Dave Kern, and a feature on former Islander Mike Lookingland getting his own bobblehead night in Baltimore.
The Goalkeeper – Jonathan Tannenwald
I love seeing new blogs pop up and The Goalkeeper looks to be a good one. Run through the Philly.com sports section, Jonathan keeps up with Philadelphia Union news and happenings and had a lot of insider info at the NSCAA convention following the draft. News and notes also appear on twitter @thegoalkeeper.
MISL (Major Indoor Soccer League) Outlets
The best MISL news I get is usually from the teams themselves. Now with five franchises active in newly begun season, the Baltimore Blast and Philadelphia Kixx are two of the few still kickin’ it. You can check out the team websites at www.baltimoreblast.com and www.kixxonline.com or follow them on twitter @BaltimoreBlast and @PhillyKixx respectively.
Other News:
The USL website has a great interview with Riverhounds new head man, Justin Evans. Evans discusses goals for the season, competing in the reshuffled USL-2, and his vision for the continued growth of the franschise. Hope to see big things from the Hounds over the next few seasons.
Now that the MLS Superdraft and combine have ended, it’s the USL’s turn. Upwards of 70 players have been invited to take place in this years combine hosted at the Charleston Battery’s Blackbaud Stadium. The list is heavy with players with PDL experience and the USL teams and coaches are hoping to see great things from these new prospects during the February 4th-6th event.
Steve Goff, The Washington Post’s Soccer Insider is reporting that Jonathan Borrajo, a former George Mason standout and recent Real Maryland Monarch, looks poised to land a deal in Sweden with second division club Ljungskile.
