So you were selected in the MLS expansion draft, but what now?
If you are former San Jose Earthquake winger Shea Salinas, you now have to sell all your furniture and move across the country. Shea was recently featured on news site MLS Daily when his Craigslist posting for “Used Ikea Furniture” turned up. What’s more, Shea is even offering to help move the furniture anywhere in the Bay area to assist potential buyers. No word on whether there were any takers or not. (The ad has, sadly, been deleted.)
If you are former New England Revolution goalkeeper, Brad Knighton, it’s the off-season as usual: trips to golf in Florida, a stop-in to see the grandparents in Carolina, and dinner out with some old college buddies (bbknighton is a very active tweeter). Brad is also an avid gamer and reportedly will play any aspiring Philadelphia fan, in Call of Duty 2: Modern Warfare on XBOX Live. If you are interested in challenging the net-minder, his XBOX player ID is DUBSCR0.
If you are former Seattle Sounders forward, Sebastien Le Toux, the Seattle faithful decided to throw you a going-away party. As a staple of the USL-1 Sounders, and the first ever player for Seattle Sounders FC, Seattle fans are justifiably sad to see the Frenchman go. With a reputation for class and dedication, Seba left Seattle on the best of terms and arrives eager to begin practice.
If you are former New York Red Bull midfielder Nick Zimmerman, the plan is to hit the gym – hard. Coming off of his rookie season, Nick is very excited to continue developing as a player and improving as an athlete. The recent James Madison grad was one of the few bright spots for a poor performing Red Bulls club this past season, and the Union are very happy to have him.
And if you are one of the expansion draft members on the Union roster at present, you are certainly looking forward to potential teammates coming on board. The team has acquired goalkeeper Chris Seitz and center back Danny Califf since the expansion draft, but outside of rumored pickups of Delaware Valley product Jeremiah White, Vincenzo Bernardo and others, nothing else is official.
However, the team has scheduled an announcement at Body Zone in Reading, PA for the morning of Monday, December 21st. What they will announce at that point is still something of a question, but that members of the Sons of Ben, the Union’s first supporters group, will be there in full voice, is not.
