Jim Curtin was in the running for Coach of the Year last year, he’s also one of the sharpest dressers.

If you want to watch all Union goals from last year, now you can!

MLS

Who will the Union take in the MLS SuperDraft? (If they don’t trade away all their picks)

Can you see these European based players in MLS next season?

With the possible leak of the Union’s home kit, which were the best kits from the 2010s?

NYCFC have found their replacement for Dome Torrent.

Is the Union’s New Year’s wish a younger, more defensive Haris Medujanin?

What does each MLS team need heading into the New Year? (Also a Jamiro Monterio update would be helpful).

When Messi and Ronaldo hang up the boots, who will step up?

The USMNT will no longer travel to Qatar due to rising tensions in the region.

  1. Jim is a sharply dressed gent. Always looks terrific.

  2. Kevin Kinkead and Union Rumors reporting that another D-Mid/CB/RB is in Philly (at the Eagles game yesterday).
    .
“…21 y/o DM/CB Slovak YNT Matej Oravec to @PhilaUnion – transfer fee cited as $450K. He plays for FC DAC Dunajská Streda in Slovak League.”
    .
I pondered a few days ago whether Jose Martinez may actually be slotted for competition at RB in light of Tanner’s comments about taking time to transition into the line-up (my paraphrase).
    .
Shaping up to be an interesting pre-season.

  3. I have to give J. Sam Jones (MLS article about what each team needs) some credit. He made me laugh with this:
    .
“Or they could just give the ball to Ilsinho more. Please give the ball to Ilsinho more. Make the entire team out of Ilsinho actually. Why are we wasting time on other non-Ilsinho players? Ilsinho. (I know he fell off at the end last year let me have this.)”
    .
    LOL

  4. Is it possible the US is using the tension in the Middle East as an excuse as to why they don’t qualify to play in Qatar in 2022?

  5. Penn state women’s soccer head coach Erica Dambach has been named assistant coach of the United States Women’s National Team: https://onwardstate.com/2020/01/04/erica-dambach-named-uswnt-assistant-coach/

  6. In Tanner We Trust says:

It’s now January and still not a peep about Monty. I check every single stinkin day. Anyone have a hot take about whether this is good news or bad news?

    • It’s all just hope at this point IMO. I didn’t think he was going to be back when the season ended, and I’ve seen nothing that changes that.

      • I agree with you. Too much $$$.
        .
If they don’t announce at least one signing this week, it makes me wonder if Union are either (1) losing on bidding wars on the players they want or (2) they think they can’t close the deals because of the “internal equity issues” it would create.

      • It seems like they have some good irons in fires out there. There’s the rumor about the Czech kid who wants to come here but his team rejected the Union bid. Then there’s the other Eastern European footballer who was at the Eagles game on Sunday. Both seem like real Tanner types — solid, young players in lesser leagues that are affordable but likely to have a real impact in MLS. So far Tanner’s track record has been very good.

    • To the best of my knowledge, the last word about anything regarding Monty was on Dec 28th here: https://twitter.com/TeamGrenat/status/1211040408106614789
      .
G-translates to “Metz and Union discussing sale”. So it seems like they are still trying, but also as Pete mentions Tanner seems to have multiple options lined up.

      • Old Soccer Coach says:

The FC Metz official, judging by his title, is the right guy to be working on negotiations, and — iff internet translations of the French into English ar accurate — it sounded like these are the final negotiations, that both sides are now getting serious.
        .
One hopes so as physicals occur in Chester in 11 days on the 18th.
        .
Tanner has always said that it will be difficult.
