Two thoughts on Jill Ellis: “In the end, Ellis was rewarded for her boldness” and “Anyone who reads this could manage the USWNT to a World Cup title“.

  1. Old Soccer Coach says:

Honduras scored 4 goals from the 59th minute forward, soundly defeating El Salvador and eliminating them. Curacao are through to the quarters and will play at 8:30 Sunday at the Link, presumably against the Group D winner since the group C winner, Jamaica, is playing that night at 5 PM.

    • 5 pm – Group C #1 (Jamaica) v Group D #2
      8:30 PM – Group C #2 (Curacao) v. Group D #1

      Group D 1 & 2 are determined by Panama-US game tonight

      • Looks like the US will play Curacao at 8.30pm at the Linc unless the US can’t get a result tonight; then they will play at 5 against Jamaica

  2. I’m going to the Gold Cup games on Sunday and would very much welcome a game vs Curacao on Sunday night. Much better than “park the bus” El Salvador, that’s for sure, so glad they’re eliminated. That along with rooting for Andre Blake in the first game vs Panama would be great. The US just has to get a result tonight, win or tie.

    • Andy Muenz says:

Wouldn’t you rather the US (or Panama) knock Jamiaca out so Blake is available against Orlando next Wednesday?

      • Yeah good point. But we’ll be playing 2 games w/o him regardless. And I would hope he would be back for the return fixture July 6th. Plus I just can’t root for Panama.

      • Andy Muenz says:

Don’t forget that the more games he plays for Jamaica, the more chance he gets injured in one like he did two years ago. If he does get hurt, I’d rather it be while playing for the Union rather than someone else.

  3. Andy Muenz says:

Hope Solo is a crybaby whiner who should just keep her opinions to herself. She lost all respect from me when she wasn’t a team player during the 2007 World Cup and I wished she’d stop shooting her mouth off now that she is irrelevant.

  4. The SB Nation piece on Jill Ellis is almost comically harsh. You can say similar things about so many managers who are lucky enough to manage loads of talent. Similar can and has been sed of Pep Guardiola. Yes, the talent is important, but you still have to manage it and coach it. She won a World Cup and has a shot at another. To say anyone can do it is ridiculous. I’ll tell you I sure as hell couldn’t do it. First time Carli Lloyd yelled at me for leaving her out of the Starting XI, I’d probably just quit and tell ’em I’m not cut out for management. Let’s give Ellis a break.

  5. Like zero comments on the Times article about U.S. soccer?
It sounds Argentina-esk over there. I would have thought that would cause more concern.
