Philadelphia Union

The Union are bringing soccer back to Chester High School after 30 years. It’s a big deal and long overdue, but still a great move for the club to help the community it calls home. See PSP’s piece here.

Saturday’s match versus Red Bulls is also Pride Night! Ahead of the game, the Union and local LGBTQIA team Philadelphia Falcons are hosting a public 5v5 game at 12th/Locust tomorrow from 6:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. Bring your boots!

The Falcons are also holding a Pride Night tailgate at Talen ahead of the match. Look for their flag!

Speaking of tailgates… Join PSP for our own tailgate and fundraiser! Schmooze and booze with your favorite volunteer soccer writers and photographers. Location still TBD, but looking like Lot C. Make sure to check us on Twitter for exact spot on game day.

Even without Marco Fabian, the Union are feeling good about Saturday’s matchup.

MLS

Saphir Taider’s brace led topsy-turvy Montrel Impact to a 2-1 win over a depleted Seattle Sounders squad.

Las Vegas Golden Knights’ owner says he is pursuing an MLS franchise for the city. Oy. Las Vegas Lights Til I Die, baby!

A comprehensive preview from the New York Times.

This will be the most competitive tournament ever, but so many women are still barred from the game with corruption and abuse.

U.S. Soccer

In last night’s Gold Cup tune-up, Gregg Berhalter ran out a very experimental lineup that did very not good in a 1-0 loss to Jamaica.

  1. That USMNT game was kinda sad. Jamaica looked pretty good against the US. The announcer kept saying how they need to change the perception around US soccer. That game was not the way to do it.

  2. Frankly rooting against the USMNT at least the senior team. Earnie Stewart’s incompetence combined with lack of any Union players makes it tough to pull for them. And ugly displays like that one against Jamaica don’t help energize the fan base.

Beat Red Bull! Have a long-planned dinner to attend Saturday night. So can’t go to game. But will record and watch when we get home.
