Philadelphia Union

A depth-testing lineup beat visiting Sporting Kansas City yesterday, surprising pretty much everyone.

Local, KC, and national coverage.

Local

Even with the Union exercising their priority on guys like Mbaizo and McCarthy, Bethlehem Steel FC still managed to make Toronto FC II regret coming south. That puts Bethlehem four points above the playoff line, and eliminated Tworonto from playoff contention.

Penn FC took a 1-0 lead into halftime, but the visitors from Cincinnati came back to win it 2-1 and secure FC Cincinnati’s #1 spot in the playoffs.

Delaware beat the College of Charleston 2-1, thanks to a brace from Hertha BSC youth product Timo Hummrich.

Temple topped the University of Central Florida to earn their first AAC win of the season.

Montreal drew against New York City, meaning the Union extended their lead over the sixth-place Canadians by two points.

Bradley Wright-Phillips, a player who isn’t particularly known for being abusive to refs, will be missing from the Red Bulls meeting with Atlanta next weekend because a referee thinks Wright-Phillips has a potty mouth.

NWSL

After finishing the season with seventeen wins, six draws, and just a single loss, the North Carolina Courage capped their amazing season with a decisive 3-0 victory over the Portland Thorns.

It wasn’t all bad for Portland though, as Lindsey Horan was named the 2018 NWSL Season MVP.

US Soccer

Odell Beckham Jr. claims he was on track to “try out for the national team” when he was thirteen. Also shout out to Philly native Kevin Hart for claiming that black people don’t know who Ronaldinho is. I’m sure over half of Sunday’s starting XI would be surprised to hear that.

Madrid hates the idea of a La Liga game being played in the US. Though maybe they’re just mad they weren’t invited.

The other Manchester isn’t happy with Alexis Sanchez’ performance so far.

He’s not wrong.

  1. Just a note, the Union are 2 games (6 points) above Montreal, not 2 points.

  2. Random musing: Wonder if there’s been an Ernie leaving effect. Team is 6-1-1 since he left for USMNT. 19 out of an avail 24 points. Is Curtin off a leash? Gotta say, he pushed a lot of good buttons yesterday. Just some Monday speculation on my part.
