Philadelphia Union have signed goalkeeper Jake McGuire, the team announced Friday.

McGuire, 22, was a second round draft pick out of Tulsa by the Houston Dynamo this year and played for the club in one friendly. However, he didn’t stick with Houston and found his way to the Union, initially as a trialist and officially via waivers.

As of now, the 6-3 McGuire projects as a backup goalkeeper who will likely see time playing for the Union’s USL side, Bethlehem Steel FC.

“We were eager to take a look at Jake in training when we found out that he had become available, and we are excited to bring him aboard officially,” Union Sporting Director Earnie Stewart said in a statement from the club. “Jake is a tall, athletic goalkeeper who excelled in college with Tulsa. We look forward to having him on the squad and anticipate him getting good experience with Bethlehem Steel FC this season.”

McGuire played four seasons at Tulsa, where he was named to the NSCAA Third-Team All-East Region in his final year and recorded 17 clean sheets in 67 matches. He previously spent time in Chivas USA’s academy and with the U.S. Youth National Team’s residency program.
