The Union have never defeated Dallas in league play, their only victory coming on the road in the semifinals of the 2014 US Open Cup.

March 21, 2015: Philadelphia Union 0-2 FC Dallas

PSP Match Report Highlights

Zach Pfeffer was shown a red card at the end of the first half, and FC Dallas scored twice in the second half to defeat the Union 2-0 at PPL Park.

Starting in his first game of the season, Pfeffer saw a straight red card after he led with his forearm in a tackle against Mauro Diaz in the 42nd minute. Tesho Akindele and Ryan Hollingshead scored to start the second half and Dallas comfortably saw out the match to take three points back to Texas.

PSP Player Ratings and Analysis Highlights

And there was plenty of action, in much the same way there plenty of action in a food fight but in the end everyone just ends up messy and relieved that it’s over. But even an ugly match can have bright spots, and you can bet the coaching staff will be saying some version of those words as they sit in the video room this week trying to figure out how to move forward without attacking midfielders.

July 4, 2014: FC Dallas 2-1 Philadelphia Union

PSP Match Report Highlights

A strange second half own goal in which a Fabinho clearance bounced off Sheanon Williams was the difference as FC Dallas held on to beat Philadelphia Union 2-1 in Frisco, Texas.

Tesho Akindele gave FC Dallas a deserved 1-0 lead with a goal in the 26th minute. Philadelphia responded just before the half when Amobi Okugo turned in a nice cross from Cristian Maidana. But a Williams own goal in the 49th minute would be enough for Dallas to take all three points.

Maurice Edu was shown a straight red card in the 89th minute and will be suspended for the Union’s next league match.

PSP Player Ratings and Analysis Highlights

Sometimes you come up against a better team and you get beat. Sometimes you just find a way to lose.

In Dallas, the Philadelphia Union did the latter.

So many little things went wrong against FC Dallas that it is almost surprising to be able to identify a few truly positive signs going forward.

June 29, 2013: Philadelphia Union 2-2 FC Dallas

PSP Match Report Highlights

FC Dallas scored a stoppage time goal while playing a man down to earn a late 2-2 draw Saturday against Philadelphia Union.

Aaron Wheeler looked to have snatched all three points for the home side with his 87th minute goal, but Blas Perez scored in the 7th minute of injury time after having a seemingly good goal waved off only minutes before.

PSP Player Ratings and Analysis Highlights

For the second time this season, the Union turned a man advantage into a draw at home, leaving four critical points on the table.

Entering the match against FC Dallas, a tie would not have seemed like the worst result, but considering the circumstances, the Union failed to capitalize against a tired team shorn of key players after they went down a man.

May 19, 2012: FC Dallas 1-1 Philadelphia Union

PSP Match Report Highlights

In the 56th minute, Gabriel Gomez lowered his head and, with Philadelphia’s first shot of the match, tied the score at one.

When the half ended, Williams ushered the team off the pitch. After the game he would say he just didn’t want to walk down the tunnel at the same time as the other team. But after such a horrendous first half, it looked like The Sheanomenon was taking up the leadership reins.

PSP Player Ratings and Analysis Highlights

In his Union debut Michael Lahoud played more minutes than he had in the previous 10 matches for Chivas USA.

The left-footed Daniel was at a complete loss playing forward on the right wing. With the brand new Michael Lahoud tasked with creating out of the midfield, the organization of the Union was a complete shambles, and the pipeline of service to Mwanga and Pajoy ran dry.

August 13, 2011: Philadelphia Union 2 – 2 FC Dallas

PSP Match Report Highlights

The Union’s offense was in full rotation as Adu, McInerney, Paunovic and Le Toux took turns up top. The personnel is of little consequence when none of their feet work properly, and that was too often the case in the early going.

More points dropped at home, but surviving a rough first half against an in-form side is nothing to be down about.

PSP Player Ratings and Analysis Highlights

Adu’s first PPL Park appearance was memorable only in that it showed any player, regardless of stature, salary or skill, may be played out of position.

It’s always strange to hear a coach say, “That’s what they do, it’s what we expect” after a match in which it looked like their team was caught off guard.

May 14, 2011: FC Dallas 2 – 0 Philadelphia Union

PSP Match Reports Highlights

“Philadelphia finished with only five shots total, and only a lonely long range effort from Danny Mwanga actually getting on goal.”

“Le Toux and Mwanga looked to be on the same page early on and their forward runs not only found them in good space, but also opened up room on the flanks for Justin Mapp and Roger Torres to operate.”

PSP Player Ratings and Analysis Highlights

“What was truly disappointing was that the first goal sapped the team’s confidence and made them question themselves. The commitment to offense was gone, and the defensive concentration remained absent.”

“Union management continually reminds us that the bench is filled with young, developing players. Then it puts them in incredibly unique and disconcerting situations (like a 4-2-4 formation).”

“Whoa, Danny Mwanga. Talk about a way to finally stamp your name on a game. Mwanga drilled home a game-tying goal in injury time to give Philadelphia Union a 1-1 draw Saturday against FC Dallas…”

  1. We have no wins against Dallas, I think. Lets change that.

  2. John Ling says:

“Juan Diego Gonzalez could be one of the missing pieces. The big Colombian looked assured in playing beside Califf. He got a full 90 minute run on his debut and made no huge mistakes.”

    Bwahahaha! Damn, that’s funny!

    • Mike Servedio says:

Going back through our old match reports and player ratings is often pretty funny. I’m going to pretend Adam or Eli wrote that one, even though I know I did…

Even the line up from the last time we played Dallas is pretty amusing: Harrison, Valdes (Lopez 78′), Williams, Gaddis, Carroll, Lahoud (Martinez 55′), Daniel, Gomez (Okugo 58′), M. Farfan, Mwanga, Pajoy

  3. I always have to miss watching this match for one reason or another. The last few times it’s been work, this time it’s a wedding.

As per usual, I’m not too bummed. I really hope The U can turn their luck around against this team, but I don’t have much hope.

  4. I feel like this could be a draw… The U is a different team. It is possible Dallas is looking past them. Then again… Hope it’s not a blowout!!
