KYW Philly Soccer Show: US advances to Round of 16, Union advances in USOC

The US are through to the knockout round in the Women’s World Cup, and the KYW Philly Soccer Show breaks it down for you.
In the latest edition of the KYW Philly Soccer Show, KYW’s Greg Orlandini and PSP’s Eli Pearlman-Storch are joined by Jami Dansingburg, co-founder of Global Soccer Metrix and PSP contributor who is an expert on the women’s game.

Despite making out of the group stage, the US women haven’t exactly impressed so far in the tournament. Greg, Eli and Jami talk about the tactics the team has employed, and the how the women will do going forward in the World Cup, beginning with the Round of 16 against Colombia on Monday.

After that, Greg and Eli discuss the Philadelphia Union, who advance to the fifth round of the US Open Cup, after beating the Rochester Rhinos on penalty kicks after extra time.

The Union are looking to make another strong run in this competition after losing in the final to Seattle last year, 3-1, at PPL Park.

  1. Correction regarding my comment on this show about B.J. Snow’s position within the USWNT system. He is the U-17 Head Coach, NOT the U-20 Coach.

Both he and April Kater, the Head Development Coach for the U.S. girls national teams and USNTC’s are both doing great work in their identification and development of the next generation.

Additionally, the predictive psychological success testing system my company is working on includes:
    – Dr. Tiffany Jones (founder/president of X-Factor Performance)
    – Anson Dorrance (former USWNTC coach & legendary women’s coach at UNC)
    – Dr. Matt Robinson (Director of the Sport Management Program in the Lerner College of Business and Economics at the University of Delaware, USOC consultant, Director of Education Management for the NSCAA)
**One of the tests to be included in the 5-part test will include Dr. Angela Duckworth’s “Grit Test”

NOTE: Every one of the UNC players currently on the USWNT WWC roster came in 1st on the “Beep Test” during their junior or senior year’s on the squad.

  2. Grit. Important for sports. Important for sandpaper. Indispensable.
