Temple University (6-3-1) NCAA RPI Rank No. 26 (last updated Sept. 30)

Temple is tied for sixth place for the highest shutout percentage in the nation with just 1 goal allowed in 6 home matches. The Owls fell 2-1 at Delaware on Sept. 17 despite 9 saves from junior goalkeeper Dan Scheck. Forward Chas Wilson scored Temple’s single goal in the 13th minute. On Sept. 21, the Owls earned a 1-0 shutout against Philly Soccer 6 rival Villanova. Freshman Donovan Fraser had the game winning goal. Freshman defender Matt Mahoney scored his first goal against Fordham on Sept. 25 for the 1-0 win to secure Temple’s sixth shutout victory of the season. The Owls traveled to Kentucky to face the nationally ranked No. 12 Louisville on Sept. 28. Goalkeeper Dan Scheck’s 7 saves were not enough to avoid a 3-0 shutout loss in the Owl’s opening match of the newly formed American Athletic Conference. Temple hosted No. 28 UConn on Wednesday which ended in a 1-1 double overtime draw. Robert Sagel scored in the 79th minute. Looking ahead, Temple faces Philly rival Drexel on Oct. 5 at Vidas Field.

Drexel University (5-3-1) NCAA RPI Rank No. 87

Drexel shutout hometown rival La Salle on Sept. 17 with a 90th minute goal from forward Mark Donohue for the 1-0 win. Senior midfielders Nathan Page and Ken Tribbett each contributed a goal to beat Rutgers 2-1 on Sept. 24. The Dragons opened up CAA conference action on Sept. 28 with a 2-1 win against No. 5 William & Mary. Junior defender Maty Brennan and Ken Tribbett secured the win with help from NCAA ranked goalie Tyler Afflerbach who has the third best save percentage in the nation. City rival Penn ended Drexel’s five-game win streak on Wednesday night with a 3-2 upset at Rhodes Field. Ken Tribbett and Robert Liberatore each score a goal for the Dragons. Drexel faces Soccer 6 rival Temple on Oct. 5 at Vidas Field.

Saint Joseph’s University (2-3-5) NCAA RPI Ranking No. 93

The Hawks traveled to Brooklyn on Sept. 26 to face Saint Francis. SJU fought through two overtimes to earn a scoreless draw. On Sept. 29 Saint Joe’s secured a road shutout at Howard. Juniors Jake Nelson and Tommy Brooks and sophomore Temeh Emmanuel contributed a goal each to secure the 3-0 win. The Hawks earned a 3-3 road draw at NJIT on Wednesday with Mike Glazer, Alex Critzos and Jake Nelson contributing a goal apiece.

Villanova University (4-4-1) NCAA RPI Ranking No. 121

The Wildcats were shutout 1-0 by Philly Soccer 6 rival Temple on Sept. 21 at Ambler. They secured a 2-1 home win against Penn on Sept. 24. Freshman forward Max Kroschwitz secured the win with his first 2 goals as a Wildcat. Villanova traveled to Indianapolis to face nationally ranked No. 16 Butler on Sept. 28. The Wildcats fell 2-1 despite 6 saves from junior goalkeeper Andrew Weakly and a goal from freshman forward Padraic McCullaugh. Villanova shut down La Salle 3-1 on Wednesday evening at McCarthy Stadium with goals from Padraic McCullaugh, Chris Hill and Dylan Renna. The Wildcats host Marquette on Oct. 5 in their Big East Conference opener.

La Salle University (3-4-2) NCAA RPI Ranking No. 133

The Explorers fell 1-0 to Drexel on Sept. 17 at Vidas Field. On Sept. 21 La Salle shutout Lehigh 3-0 at McCarthy Stadium. Freshman Dan Caya, junior Tom Baker and senior Glenroy Chapman each contributed a goal apiece. The Explorers earned a 3-1 road win against Stetson on Sept. 28 with goals from Glenroy Chapman, sophomore Andrew Connors and senior Giancarlo Granese. La Salle fell 3-1 to Philly Soccer 6 rival Villanova on Wednesday night despite 5 saves from goalkeeper John McCarthy and a 23rd minute goal from Kehiel Williams.

University of Pennsylvania (3-6-0) NCAA RPI Ranking No. 172

The Quakers fell 2-1 at Philly Soccer 6 rival Villanova on Sept. 24. Junior Duke Lacroix scored the team’s single goal in the 29th minute. On Sept. 27 Penn hosted Florida Gulf Coast. Freshman forward Sam Hayward and Duke Lacroix both contributed goals, but were denied the win in a 3-2 overtime loss. The Quakers were shutout by Florida International at home for a 2-0 loss on Sept. 29 despite 7 saves from senior goalkeeper Tyler Kinn. Penn’s sophomore goalkeeper Max Polkinhorne made 7 saves on Wednesday night to secure a 3-2 win over city rival Drexel. Duke Lacroix provided a goal and Sam Hayward scored 2 against the Dragons. The Quakers face Cornell on Oct. 5 in their Ivy League Conference opener.
