Divison III men’s soccer roundup: Conference play heats up, history is made, and more

Some conferences began conference play last week, others continued it, and some will finally start conference play this weekend. From here on out, each game is of equal importance.

Capital Athletic Conference

York (Pa.): Riding on momentum from their 1-0 upset-victory over Messiah last week, three different scorers lead the Spartans to their first conference win of the season, a 3-0 victory over Mary Washington.

Penn State Harrisburg: Brandon Hoover made five saves as PSU-Harrisburg tied Southern Virginia 1-1.

Wesley: Giving up three second-half goals, Wesley lost their third straight game with a 3-0 loss against conference foe Christopher Newport.

Centennial Conference

Swarthmore’s Michael Superdock scored a late second-half goal to secure a 1-1 tie against Ursinus. Ursinus’s lone goal was scored by Aaron Nelson.

Franklin and Marshall: The Diplomats suffered a 1-0 loss against Muhlenburg. Mark my words, this game could come back to haunt F&M when the NCAA tournament comes around.

Dickinson: The Red Devils found their first Centennial Conference win on Homecoming Weekend behind goals from three different players in a 3-1 victory over Johns Hopkins. The win snaps a two-game losing streak.

Haverford: After going up 1-0 three minutes into the second-half, Gettysburg scored two goals to erase Haverford’s lead. The Fords fell 2-1. Sam Yarosh scored his sixth goal on the season.

Commonwealth Conference

Complete conference standings

Messiah: After losing 1-0 to York, Messiah rebounded nicely with a 3-0 victory over Misericordia with Josh Wood, Jeremy Payne, and Danny Brandt finding goals.

Lebanon Valley: It would take until overtime, but LVC defeated Desales 1-0 thanks to Garth Stefan’s game-winning goal.

Lycoming: The warriors six-game unbeaten streak ended with a 2-0 loss against Rochester.

Widener: Eric Taylor and Matt Parrotta scored as the Pride defeated Lancaster Bible 2-0.

Albright: The Lions are heading in the wrong direction. With a 4-0 loss against Eastern and a 2-1 loss to Desales, Albright has lost three straight games since last week’s update. Vitali Zaluha scored Albright’s lone goal against Desales.

Arcadia: After trailing 1-0, Arcadia’s David Colombo assisted on the next two goals putting the Knights up 2-1. After Keystone equalized, Alex Wells scored on a PK with less than five minutes to go putting Arcadia up for good for a thrilling 3-2 win.

Elizabethtown: The Blue Jays are heading into their last season of Commonwealth Conference play on the right foot. Three different players scored as Etown dispatched Wilkes 3-0.

Alvernia: Neumann dealt the Crusaders their fifth straight loss as Alvernia fell 1-0.

Freedom Conference

Eastern: The Eagles are off to a fast 8-1 season start with a convincing 4-0 victory over Albright.

Misericordia: The Cougars were shutout 3-0 against Messiah before defeating Juniata 2-0. Derek Antonini and Nick von Egypt scored against Juniata.

Wilkes: Etown blanked Wilkes 3-0 in a MAC crossover showdown.

Delaware Valley: Del Val fell 4-0 to Cabrini after conceding three second-half goals in a ten minute span. Cabrini extended its winning streak to four games with a 3-1 win over Rosemont on Tuesday in its 2013 Colonial States Athletic Conference opener.

Desales: The Bulldogs lost 1-0 in OT to LVC before winning 2-1 against Albright.

Landmark Conference

Juniata: For the first time in program history, Juniata defeated Scranton and won by a 1-0 scoreline. Additionally, this is the first time Eagles are 1-0 in Landmark play. Robby Higgins scored the game-winner less than two minutes into overtime. With the loss, Scranton falls to 0-1 in conference play.

Susquehanna: With a 2-0 win over Moravian, Susquehanna improves to 1-1 in conference play while Moravian falls to 0-1. Susquehanna has shutout Moravian in five straight games.

New Jersey Athletic Conference

Complete conference standings

Rutgers-Camden: Behind a two-goal game from Mike Ryan, the Scarlet Raptors defeated Kean 2-1. Rutgers is now 11-0 on the season.

Richard Stockton: After trailing 1-0 against William Patterson, Stockton led 2-1 and never looked back. In the end, Stockton won 5-4 and improved to 2-1 in NJAC play. Anthony Colofranson scored a hat-trick on the night.

Rowan: The Profs went up 1-0, but FDU-Florham completed the comeback and defeated Rowan 2-1. Stockton and Rowan will face-off Wednesday night at 7:30 p.m.
