KYW Philly Soccer Show: Sheanon Williams

The Philadelphia Union put one in the win column for the first time this year, with a 1-0 victory over the Columbus Crew, and the KYW Philly Soccer Show talks with one of the keys to that victory.

In Part 1, KYW’s Greg Orlandini and Philly Soccer Page writer Eli Pearlman-Storch are joined by defender Sheanon Williams.

Williams, who is PSP’s Player of the Week, had a standout game. With an injury to captain Danny Califf, Sheanon played as a center back instead of his usual right back, shutting down Crew forward Aaron Schoenfeld.

In Part 2, Greg and Eli break down the win against the Crew.

The Union saw great midfield play from Michael Farfan and Gabriel Gomez, with Keon Daniel and Freddy Adu also having solid games.

But forward Lionard Pajoy struggled in front of the net and was unable to put away any of his many chances in the game. Gomez provided the only goal, a first-half penalty kick that he converted with stylish chip.

Also discussed is the newest member of the Union, forward/midfielder Kai Herdling, who arrives on a loan deal from German team Hoffenheim 1899. Herdling has played mainly for Hoffenheim’s reserve team in the German second division.

  1. My favorite player on the team. I hope one day he can get a call up to the NT now that the U23 choked away his shot to prove himself on a slightly lesser national stage.
