The Philadelphia Independence announced today that they may soon play at PPL Park.

The catch? Qualifying for the WPS playoffs.

According to today’s press release, “The Independence can secure the right to host at least the WPS SuperSemifinal on Saturday, August 20 at 4:00 p.m. with one more regular season win, and can position itself to host the 2011 WPS Championship on Saturday, August 27 at 4:00 p.m. if the team remains in first place and wins the WPS Regular Season Title.”

Independence owner and CEO David Halstead said in the press release, “The Independence has always had its sights set on playing matches at PPL Park and we are grateful to the Philadelphia Union and PPL Park for working with us to make this happen. If we can maintain momentum on the field and end the WPS regular season at the top of the standings, we’ll have a terrific event at PPL Park to showcase our team, fans, and women’s professional soccer to the rest of the country.”

With Wednesday night’s win in Boston, the Independence have moved into sole possession of first place, three points ahead of WNY Flash. The Independence have three games left to play in the regular season while WNY Flash have five games remaining.
