River Cup rosters announced

The trash talking Sons of Ben team learned on Thursday who they will face on the pitch when they meet the Union’s front office squad in the inaugural River Cup charity game at PPL Park on July 15.

Among those appearing for the front office will be, from the coaching staff, Peter Nowak, John Hackworth, Rob Vartughian and Brendan Burke. Also in the lineup are Union owner Jay Sugarman, CEO Nick Sakiewicz and investor Rob Buccini.

The Sons of Ben have a 23-player roster that features six of the nine Elders, including SOB president Matt Ansboro, vice president Corey Furlan, Mark Dunfee, Brad Youtz and Mike Naioti. Dave Flagler, one of the co-founders of the supporters group, will also play.

On the Sons of Ben squad will also be Daily News reporter Kerith Gabriel.

It is unclear if members of the Sons of Ben Zolo, currently in fifth place in the Casa League Third Division, or Sons of Ben Independence, in last place in the Casa League fourth division, will contribute players to the Sons of Ben squad.

Tickets for the match are $10 with all proceeds going to Chester City United. Tickets can be purchased at the PPL Park box office.

The Jay and Kelly Sugarman Foundation will also donate $1000 for each goal scored with a cap set at $10,000.

Love the SOBs but you guys are toast in this game.

Next year they should at least make it competitive and play one of the excellent amateur sides in the area! 🙂

Too bad there’s a cap set on donations. I’m thinking 25-0 Union staff. Previous commenter: that was my original pick for team name.
