Union sign JT Noone, waive Brian Perk

The Union announced Friday that they have signed midfielder and local product JT Noone. The terms of the signing, following league policy, were undisclosed.

Noone, grew up in Harrisburg where he attended Central Dauphin High School. He played at Temple University where he was named to ESPN Magazine Men’s Soccer Academic All-District 2 University Division Second Team as a sophomore. He became the first Temple soccer player to be named an All-American in 22 years when he was selected for the NSCAA Second Team All-America squad in 2008. He was a NSCAA First Team All-Atlantic Region selection in his junior year.

Before the start of his senior year Noone played for the Ocean City Barons in the USL Premier Development League.

After trialling with the Philadelphia Union, Noone turned professional when he was signed by the Harrisburg City Islanders where he made his professional debut on May 7, 2010 against the Charlotte Eagles.

Earlier in the day the club announced that it had waived goalkeeper Brian Perk. Perk had become something of a fan favorite because of his plucky play against Celtic and Manchester United.

The Union press release announcing Noone’s signing:

Philadelphia Union announced today the signing of former Temple University midfielder J.T. Noone. For the past six months, Noone has been training with the Union as well as playing for the Harrisburg City Islanders, the Union’s USL-2 affiliate. Per Major League Soccer and team policies, the details of the signing will not be disclosed. Raised in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, Noone has been playing for the City Islanders over the last few months thanks to a partnership formed last February between the Islanders and the Union. This relationship allows the Union to loan players to Harrisburg on a game-by-game basis for increased playing time. Noone has also been training with Philadelphia Union since preseason and saw playing time in the second half of the club’s first-ever international friendly against Celtic FC on July 14.
