Philadelphia Union

The Union are among the teams considering selling their stadium naming rights to gambling interests.

Philly may be the latest team to jump on the Vinotinto bandwagon, with scouts allegedly on their way to check out Venezuelan attacker Yeferson Soteldo.

Mark McKenzie has been named to the CONCACAF U20 Championship Best XI.

MLS

The New York Red Bulls will have a tough path forward as they return to New Jersey after losing the first leg of the Eastern Conference Finals 3-0 to Atlanta United.

No New York media traveled to Atlanta to cover Sunday’s game.

Meanwhile out west, the Timbers and SKC drew 0-0 making this week’s game in Kansas City the decider.

Now that Italy doesn’t want him anymore, Giuseppe Rossi suddenly wants to play in America.

Tab Ramos could be the next coach of FC Dallas.

Zlatan to the other Milan?

Steffen to Man City?

US Soccer

In a move that shouldn’t surprise anyone, Gregg Berhalter will be announced as the new USMNT coach later this week.

Werder Bremen continues to use Josh Sargent as bait to get Americans to pay attention.

Meanwhile Haji Wright made his debut for Schalke.

Odds-makers now think Liverpool could be the next destination for Weston McKennie.

Bobby Wood started for Hannover 96, and twenty seconds later he scored.

World

After fan violence caused the second leg of the Copa Libertadores final to be postponed on Saturday, it was postponed again due to fan violence on Sunday. There is currently no word of when, if at all, the final will be completed.

Football Leaks says Sergio Ramos was caught doping after the Champions League final last year. Real Madrid says that isn’t what happened.

Meanwhile FIFA is obstructing an investigation of doping in Russian soccer.

Welcome to the modern-day United, a stuttering, labouring, plodding monument to mediocrity assembled at exorbitant cost.

  1. i know this is sacrilegious, but i kinda want NYRB to win to the Cup. Only to lose in it, of course. Seeing how perfect it all can go, looking from a different planet, wondering how we’ll ever get there, i really don’t want Atlanta there at this time.

if Zach gets picked up by City… [insert slow clap]

    • I’m just rooting for the final to take place on real grass – which means the pink cows better step it up in the second leg!

    • I really wanted Red Bull to beat Atlanta, too. I can’t stand Atlanta. They’re everything Philly isn’t (wealthy, successful). But god… a 3-0 shellacking. Those fans are just going to get more insufferable, as difficult as that is to believe.

stunning. allegations Russia doped in World Cup..

…in other news, algorithms run the world now.
    .
Never thought I’d say it but home and home knockouts need to go. MLS has basically thumbed world footy in the eye at every turn so why stuck to this.
    .
One match at the higher seeded team’s venue.
    .
Things can go sideways quickly in another stadium and NYRB deserve a better fate then having to go home and score 3.

  3. Congrats to Real (captain 5/8 games), McKenzie (3g 1a captain twice) & Fontana (4g) on a successful U20 CONCACAF Championship winning run!!!

  4. Eager to go to Draft Kings park in Chester, brought to you by the Philadelphia Lottery. I’m curious what firm would pick up sponsorship of the jerseys… I’m not a fan of Bimbo, but it might be better than Sportpesa, dafabet or one of those other big international gambling houses that love to sponsor mid and lower table teams in Europe: ManBetX, bet365 or Mansion.

  5. John O'Donnell Jr says:

South America is going to have an MLS problem in the future. Canceling games for violence just added reasons to come here. New facilities, pay on time and fans understand this is a Sporting event and not a reason to harm you.
