All Three Points podcast: Is this a good team?

So it’s been an unusually long time since the All Three Points podcast recorded, and all the Union have done is play the best stretch of soccer in franchise history. Maybe that’s the soccer gods trying to tell us something? No, it can’t be that. Regardless, Chris and Jeremy discuss LA, NYRB, DC, Houston, and Colorado, then try and figure something out: Are the Union, like, actually good now? And, if so, why?

To draw on Jim Curtin himself, look at the table. DC and Colorado are currently dead last in their respective conferences. And while Houston lay first at the time in the west, they had not won away and still have not.

NY Red Bulls are definitely legit, but it was a rivalry game against a desperate team.

I’m not complaining, mind you, winning is great. Just mentioning the there is sodium chloride on the table.

      Just to expand on that:
      .
Mtl – great 1st half, Biello coaches his team at half-time, makes changes & we get countered to death in 2nd half
LA – bad post-Arena team where we survived w/o much threat of scoring at all
RB – end of 3gm wk for RB, not full team (rotation), only have 1 pt in last 4gms
DC – fighting for worst team in MLS, Acosta melt-down & three career-best goals
HD – has no points on the road this year in 5 tries
CR – fighting DC for worst team in MLS, no points on road
      .
We absolutely need to be beating the dredges of the league, but I’m still waiting to see Curtin tactically beat a team, ideally in the top-half of the table.

Btw – if you want to see a good in-game tactical change, watch what Jay Heaps does 20 min into the Revs-Crew game. Down 1-0 at home and getting overrun in midfield he flips the team from a 4-3-2-1 to a flat 4-4-2 and totally changes the dynamics of the game. Revs score twice in the next 15 min, and limit the Crew to 3 shots over the next 60 min.
